Abstract: The work carried in my research tenure has been compiled in the form of a thesis entitled newline Design and Synthesis of Diverse Nitrogen/ Oxygen-Heterocycles via Transition MetalCatalyzed C-H Activation/ Cascade Annulations the main aim of this work is to design, newlinesynthesis of the tri- and tetracyclic indole, benzimidazole and and#947; and and#948; lactams via newlinetransition metal catalyzed C-H functionalization method and synthesis and biological newlineevaluation of and benzofuran derivatives by C-H functionalization. newlineThis thesis work has been divided in to six chapters. newlineChapter-I provides a general introduction on directing group assisted transition metal newlinecatalyzed C-H functionalizations of arenes. It also provides a brief background literature newlinefocusing on the various carbene and alkyne precursors used in the C-H activations for the newlinesynthesis of the polycyclic derivatives. newlineChapter-II Describes the development of an efficient method for tricyclic and newlinetetracyclic N-Heterocycles via Rh(III)-Catalyzed Chemodivergent Annulations between newlineIndoles and Iodonium Carbenes newlineChapter-III Demonstrates the development of the Solvent Controlled Chemodivergent newlineAnnulations Between 2-arylindole and Iodonium Carbenes. newlineChapter-IV Describes the development of the Ru(II)-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization of newline2-Arylbenzimidazoles with Iodonium Ylides: A Straightforward Access to Bridgehead newlinePolycyclic N-Heterocycles. newlineChapter-V Describes the development of the Synthesis of and#947;-, and and#948;-Lactams via a Unique newlineStrategy of Directing Group Assisted Ru(II)-Catalyzed Cascade Annulations newlineChapter-VI Demonstrates the development of Rh(III)-Catalyzed Benzofuran Synthesis newlineand their Biological Evaluation Towards the Anticancer Activity. newlineThe overall conclusions arising from this thesis work have been described in each chapter newlinefollowed by the research outcomes. newline
