Abstract: newline newline newline Abstract newlineBackground newlineEndodontic therapy is the treatment of choice in apical periodontitis as the newlineperiapical tissues present with inflammation and/or infection. The success of newlineendodontic treatment depends on the complete debridement of microbes from the newlineroot canal system and prevention of reinfection. Use of irrigants and intracanal newlinemedicaments to control the growth of microbes within the root canal system is thus newlineimperative. newlineAim: newlineThe aim of the study is to compare the antibacterial efficacy of Solanum newlinexanthocarpum incorporated with Silver nanoparticles as an intracanal medicament newlinewith calcium hydroxide. newlineMaterials and Methods: newlineIn a prospective randomised clinical trial, 52 patients were selected with age newlinegroups between 18 to 50 years according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, and newlinepreoperative diagnosis was done and microbial samples were collected from the newlineroot canal by paper point method. Based on block randomisation patients were newlinedivided into two groups Group I: Solanum xanthocarpum incorporated with Silver newlineNanoparticles and Group II : Calcium Hydroxide. After routine root canal newline newline newlinepreparation, Group I and Group II cleaning and shaping was done following the newlinestandard protocol until 6% 25 Protaper Gold rotary files. A second sample from the newlinecleaned and shaped root canal was collected. Intracanal medicament was placed newlinebased on the assigned group using lentulo spirals and the patient was recalled newlineafter seven days. Third sample from the root canals was obtained and obturation newlinewas completed. The microbial load in the root canal samples before and after the newlinetreatment was evaluated by RT-PCR/qPCR and analysed statistically. newlineResults: newlineBoth the groups showed a decrease in the total microbial count after cleaning and newlineshaping was performed and after the medicament was placed in the canals for 7 newlinedays. There was a significant difference in values after the completion of the newlinetreatment in both the groups. There was no significant difference between newlineSolanum xanthocarpum incorporated with Silver
