Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineAim and Objective newlineTo record the clinical severity and disease activity of Oral lichen planus (OLP) newlineand objectively evaluate the disease activity after treatment with topical newlinecalcineurin inhibitor, Tacrolimus. newlineMaterials and Methods newlineThe study population consisted of 18 patients who were clinically and newlinehistopathologically diagnosed as Oral lichen planus. Patients demographic newlinedetails, medical history and drug history was obtained. Study participants were newlinegiven tacrolimus 0.03% ointment for a period of 45 days and reviewed every 15 newlinedays. Disease activity and response to treatment was assessed at each visit newlineusing Guy s Oral Disease Severity Score (ODSS) newlineResults newline33.33% of Oral lichen planus patients in our study were in the age group of newline41-50 years. Erosive Oral lichen planus (61.11%) was the most clinical variety in newlineour study . Reticular lichen planus (22.22%) was the next common clinical newlinevariety in our study. Buccal mucosa is the commonly involved site in reticular newline(80%) and erosive lichen planus (53%). Following treatment with topical newlineTacrolimus ointment for 45 days there was significant improvement (plt0.005) in newlinethe ODSS score in comparison to baseline values. newlineConclusion newlineIn severe erosive OLP or lesions having mixed patterns a 45 day course of newlinetopical tacrolimus is effective to reduce the disease intensity and severity. newlineKeywords: OLP, erosive, reticular, ODSS, disease activity, tacrolimus newline |
