Abstract: | Abstract newlineIntroduction newlineRoot canal irrigation plays a pivotal role in endodontics, to facilitate newlineinstrumentation by lubrication, removal of debris and microorganisms, newlinesmear layer and prevent apical debris packing. Irrigants exert their effects newlineby mechanical, chemical and biological actions. Many irrigation activation newlinemethods have been recommended for increasing the irrigant` s efficiency newlinewithin the root canal system. newlineAim newlineTo compare the bacterial reduction in single rooted teeth with pulpal newlinenecrosis after Laser activated irrigation (LAI) and Conventional needle newlineirrigation (CNI). newlineMethodology newlineA total of 32 single rooted teeth with pulpal necrosis were included for this newlineclinical trial (CTRI/2021/09/047767). Under complete aseptic conditions, newlineaccess cavity preparation was done and the baseline sample S1 was newlinecollected from the root canal using paper points. After chemo mechanical newlinepreparation they were allocated into two groups, following block newlinerandomization; Group A - Conventional Needle Irrigation (CNI) with 27 newlinegauge side-vented needle, Group B- Laser activated irrigation (LAI) with newlinepulsed Er Cr: YSGG (2780nm) laser. After irrigant activation, canals were newlinedried and a second sample S2 was taken using paper points. Microbial newlineanalysis using qPCR was done to quantify the bacterial reduction among newlinethe two-groups. The collected data were analyzed with IBM SPSS newlinestatistics software 23.0 Version. To find the significant difference newlineamongst the samples in each group, Independent Student T test was newlineused. To analyze the significant difference within the sample of the study newlinegroups Bonferroni test was used. The data was represented in the terms newlineof Cq values, which are inversely proportional to the microbial count. newlineResults newlineThere is no significant difference in S1 between two groups (mean newlinedifference =0.0205; p=0.912). There is a significant difference in S2 newlinebetween two groups for the organisms (mean difference =0.8042; newlinep=0.000). The mean percentage bacterial reduction in CNI is 10.82% and newlinein LAI is 25.92% |
