Abstract: | Upcoming wireless telecommunication technology seeks more attention, along with the development of antennas which is used to deploy them. Applying the metamaterial (MTM) concept in the modelling process, the performance metrics like insertion loss, coupling or isolation between the individual elements of multiport antennas are improved. Split Ring Resonator (SRR) and Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) loaded antennas have more probability of enhanced bandwidth, improved gain, low surface waves, narrow beam-width and multiband operation without interference between the individual frequency responses. The unique property of MTM is that it tunes the induced current in the radiating structure accordingly that the wavelength of the induced current can decrease concerning decreasing frequency. This property can proportionally result in miniaturization of antenna size electrically and physically. Moreover, an asymmetrical configuration that is less focussed in research has been utilized and studied for its contribution in improving the performance metrics of planar antennas. Nowadays, closely spaced multiple antennas such as Multiple Input-Multiple Output (MIMO) antennas are gaining popularity due to 100 times increased bandwidth, increased throughput provided by them. More challenges are faced during the design of MIMO antennas such as channel capacity, low correlation coefficient or mutual coupling and compact design suitable for providing multiple resonances without the impact of neighbouring antenna elements. A novel method of improving the performance of planar MIMO antennas are focused on in this thesis newline |
