In this day and age, breast tumour is emerging as the prime newlineconcern for women, which leads to increased death rate. For early detection newlineof breast tumor, although X-ray mammography is commonly practiced for newlinecancer screening, few drawbacks such as false detection and alarm rate, newlinediscomfort and pain due to exposure to ionizing radiation, low resolution newlineimage. To obtain high resolution image, women are being compelled to breast newlinecompression and increased mental and physical stress. newlineMicrowave imaging is a promising alternative, which provides newlinehigh resolution image and good depth of penetration. Breast tissue is newlinecomprised of fibro-glandular, fatty tissues and skin. The basic axiom of newlinemicrowave imaging is the dielectric dissimilitude between normal and newlinemalignant tissues. The pernicious tissue has higher dielectric constant than newlinenormal tissue. By scrutinizing the reflected signals from the antenna newlineundesired cells can be detected. newlineAn antenna with high gain, small size, low cost, wide bandwidth newlineand high resolution image is highly lucrative. Ultra wideband antenna is a newlinesuitable rudiment for microwave imaging techniques. UWB has the ingrained newlinepotential to engender narrow time domain pulses, which reinforced the newlinecapacity of large data conveyance with a potential to afford high image newlineresolution. To procure better results for microwave imaging, dealing with newlineultra wideband antenna is highly agreeable. Distinct antennas like Vivaldi and newlinehorn antenna have been narrated for microwave imaging application but they newlineare not compact and have large lateral size. Eventually, planar monopole newlineantennas are a good choice for its small size, wider bandwidth and newlinecompactness. The designed antenna operates over the frequency band of newline3.1 GHz to 12.8 GHz. newline
