Abstract: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are made up of large number of newlinesensing nodes having computing and communication capabilities. When newlineusing these networks for data transmission, some critical aspects should be newlineconsidered for secured and effective network performance. These vital newlineparameters include limited computational power, storage capability, energy newlineconsumption and security. In order to maximize the network lifetime and to newlinemeet the QoS requirements, the cross-layer design is a best optimization newlinetechnique to improve the network performance and security. However, if the newlinecross-layer design focuses only on the inter-layer interaction of the node and newlinethe change of the node, it may not be able to adapt to this change well, or newlinecannot respond well. And also this cross layer design particularly vulnerable newlineto various attacks at different layers of the protocol stack. Therefore, it is newlineessential to provide effective security based intrusion detection system and newlinefault monitoring techniques. newlineThe first research work proposed a Cross Layer Security based newlineIntrusion Detection System (CLS-IDS) framework to improve the network newlineperformance and security. In order to perform security framework, both trust newlinevalues and fault are computed. The fault monitoring system is formulated newlinebased on the Improved Support Vector Machine (ISVM) classifier, the trust newlinevalue is computed for trust threshold values are used to detect the malicious newlinenodes in the network initially and then, the fault nodes removed. This newlineproposed CLS-IDS framework is an effective technique for determining the newlineattacks at different layers in the network and increasing the network newlineperformance. However, this existing research method has not been able to newlinedetect the malicious events occurring at different node locations at the same newlinetime. newline newline
