Abstract: | In the aerospace and automotive industries, the advancement of materials that have been developed for crucial application such as titanium matrix composites. Titanium composites own unique properties such as high specific strength, high thermal stability, good corrosion and wear resistance. Powder Metallurgy (P/M) is a unique processing technique to produce the component at the net clear shape and the wastage of powders is very minimal. newlineThe goal of the research is to investigate the titanium matrix composites reinforced with V particles with varying the Wt. % such as 0, 3, 6, and 9. The powder morphology of the powder particles is evaluated using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Afterwards, the green compacts were fabricated using Compression Testing Machine (CTM). After compaction the green compact was carefully ejected from the die and followed to that, the green compact was sintered (900º C) at inert (Argon) atmosphere. The compacts were furnace cooled till the room temperature was obtained. The density of the fabricated samples was deliberate using Archimedes principle. The theoretical density was calculated using rule of mixture. The average density attained for the composites was and#8805; 90%. The sintered samples were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDAX). newlineA dry sliding wear test was performed at room and elevated temperature conditions according to ASTM G99-05 standards. Pin-on-Disc apparatus (DUCOM, Bangalore Type: TR-20LE-PHM-400) is used to evaluate the wear properties of the composite samples. newline |
