Abstract: | Cancer is one of the crucial public health problems in the world. The corresponding incidence and mortality statistics show that it is rapidly growing globally. According to the World health organization (WHO), the incidence rate is increasing steadily with an estimated one and a half million new cases each year leading to approximately half a million deaths per year. It is most common in the age group of 20-30 year old women which can be due to uneven distribution of lifestyle, lack of physical exercise, alcoholism, unhealthy diet, genetic background, and other cancer risk factors with an increase of age. Among all types of cancers, breast cancer is one of the most debilitating and is responsible for a large number of cancer-related deaths. Relevant treatments include hormonal therapy, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. However, due to severe side effects and multidrug resistance, these treatment approaches render ineffective. Recent studies suggested that natural compounds derived drugs can target a number of pathways related to breast cancer, which can play a key role in preventing it. Since small molecules have a tendency to stimulate many physiological pathways, there lies a scope of developing better molecules as a drug for cancer. To address this, the overall aim of this thesis is to design and synthesize novel substituted indole derivatives and explore them as potential modulators against various molecular targets in breast cancer to improve the related therapeutic strategies. newline |
