Abstract: Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) include a large number of small nodes that are incorporated with newlinesensing devices. The sensor networks equipped with battery-powered nodes use wireless medium for newlinecommunication. The significant factors considered in designing a WSN are limited resources, newlinerestricted communication capabilities and constrained power consumption. Effective energy newlineutilization, optimization, routing, multicasting, quality of service, security and energy newlinemanagement are the major issues that affect a wireless communication system design and its newlineperformance. newlineThe objective of this research work is to improve network lifetime by identifying significant newlineparameters which will reduce energy consumption in the nodes. Further, this research focuses on newlinedesigning a routing protocol which minimizes energy consumption and increases network lifetime by newlineconsidering the parameters such as distance between the sensor nodes to the sink node, optimization of newlinesink node, channel allocation, collision and transmission time. Network simulator-2 (NS-2) is used in newlineall the simulations of this research work and the performance metrics considered are End to End Delay, newlineEnergy consumption, Throughput, Network lifetime via nodes, Network lifetime via communication newlinerange and Packet delivery ratio. newlineThe first contribution to this research work is to implement composite fuzzy method in newlineorder to increase network lifetime by reducing energy consumption of the nodes through newlineoptimization of sensing rate, transmission rate and relay rate. The performance of the composite newlinefuzzy method is compared with the preexisting routing methods such as Enhanced Low Duty newlineCycle(ELDC), Threshold Sensitive Energy Efficient Sensor Network(TEEN)and Distributed Energy newlineEfficient Adaptive Clustering Protocol with data gathering for large-scale wireless sensor newlinenetworks(DEEACP). The composite fuzzy technique ensures energy efficiency with enhanced newlinenetwork lifetime which was evaluated based on several performance metrics namely energy newlineconsumption, p
