Abstract: The history of mesoporous molecular sieves originates from the development of MCM newline(Mobil Composition of Matter) by Mobil researchers. The Organically functionalized newlinemesoporous material (organic-inorganic hybrid mesoporous material) possess large specific newlinesurface areas, well-defined pore radius distributions, and ordered pore systems and are widely newlineused in fields such as adsorption, chromatography, catalysis and sensing. Whilst attaching newlineorganic functionality to mesoporous silica using a variety of methods, it is possible to change newlinethe hydrophilicity/phobicity of the material. The different functionalities can be introduced into newlinethe mesoporous silica to catalyse organic transformations reaction, to be employed for newlinechemical separations or to serve as heterogeneous chelates for hazardous metal ion sensing. newline
