This thesis presents performance, exergy analysis of alternate eco-friendly refrigerant mixtures R290/R600(HCM1),R290/R600a(HCM2) and R441a(HCM3) as alternate for R134a using a refrigeration set up working on vapour compression. Energy has become basic need of all human beings because it not only drives the economy of a country but also leads to the technological development. The betterment in the standard of living has raised the demand for Refrigeration and Air-conditioning. But use of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning has led to the emission of Green House Gas emissions and thermal pollution. The important factors that determine the performance of alternate refrigerants used are the pressure of refrigerant vapour, density of liquid refrigerant and density of vapour refrigerant, viscosity of liquid refrigerant and viscosity of vapour refrigerants. Hence, for this investigation, above said property of the working fluids used were taken from the software REFPROP 7.0 for the temperature between 243K to 333K for R134a and the proposed hydrocarbon refrigerant mixtures. The hydrocarbon mixtures of refrigerants proposed as alternate refrigerants for R134a are Propane/Butane - R290/R600- HCM1 (60/40 by wt. %), Propane/Isobutane-R290/R600a- HCM2 (45.2/54.8 by wt. %) and Propane/ Butane/ Isobutane / Ethane R441a - HCM3 (54.8/ 36.1/ 6/3.1 by wt. %). newlineTheoretical analysis was done to analyse the performance of the selected refrigerants. Hence, theoretical analysis and study was done withR134a and the selected mixtures to evaluate the performance. By properly selecting the independently controllable refrigeration system variables, the performance of a refrigerating system can be analyzed. newline
