Abstract: Tropical shallow water channels can be characterized as rapidly time-varying systems that suffer severe Inter Symbol Interferences (ISI) caused by multi-path propagation, limited bandwidth, long propagation delay and high spatial and temporal variability. This dissertation presents the study on the effect of tropical shallow water channel due to environmental variations on the communication signal and to improve the performance of shallow water communication using passive time reversal (PTR). PTR with multi channel combination along with equalization has been used to mitigate the effect of ISI. In Indian waters, no work has been carried out so far on this aspect and the main objective of the present study is to analyse underwater acoustic communication using PTR method in shallow waters of Bay of Bengal. newline
