The study area faces a lot of trouble regarding the water quality issues in groundwater and surface water. In this present research, the quality of surface water and groundwater is investigated for drinking purposes through Geographic Information System, Water Quality Index (WQI), Statistical Analysis, Flow Net Analysis and Neural Network Model in different seasons (Pre-Monsoon and Monsoon 2015 and post-monsoon 2016) to check the seasonal variations. This research work is carried out in the vicinity of Coimbatore Corporation has covered entirely 8 surface water tanks beside the Noyal river stretch. The preliminary survey of the research area was carried out to identify the 4 sampling stations of each tank to collect the surface water and 8 samples around each tank of groundwater to check potential threat. The collected water samples were analysed with various physio-chemical parameters like colour, odour, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Electrical Conductivity (EC), pH, Total Alkalinity (TA), Total Hardness (TH), Chloride (Cl), Sulphate (SO4), BOD and Dissolved Oxygen (DO). Outcomes were contrasted and the drinking water norms/rules by Indian Standards (IS 10500:2012) and the World Health Organization (WHO) 2011 were refereed. Overall, the tank water quality observation for three seasons in the tanks indicated that the water quality parameters were comparatively higher in pre-monsoon than the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. Hence, the tank water is not safe for drinking as the physical and biological parameters viz. Turbidity and Dissolved oxygen are not optimal. If this water was used without any treatment it might have caused health problem to the users during the study period. Wastewater/effluents and household/domestic waste was being dumped in these tanks newline
