Abstract: | Mankind always harnesses the power of nature to satisfy the needs newlineof life. Industries and factories use natural power and produce necessary newlinecommodities. Machines are used for reducing human efforts in industries as newlinewell as domestic applications. Mechanical engineers design and manufacture newlinemachines and their components. Mechanical engineering includes the processes newlineof designing, manufacturing, assembling, and maintenance of machines. The newlinedesign of mechanical Engineering components is a process of creating original newlinedesign drawing. A new idea or innovation forms the basis of the design. Part newlinedimensions are obtained through mathematical calculations. The design process newlineis termed as forward engineering if the process starts from rational designs (highlevel newlineabstractions) and they are transformed to detailed physical implementation newline(low-level abstractions). The design process is termed as Reverse Engineering newline(RE) if the process starts from the original component (lower level of newlineabstraction) to arrive at specifications (higher level of abstraction). The reverse newlineengineering as a technology helps in reinventing/replicating the original design newlinefrom a physical part/product whose engineering data /technical details, such as newlinedrawings, bills-of-material, and specifications are not available. newlineReverse engineering will progress step-by-step, from the acquisition newlineof point cloud data using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to solid model newlinegeneration. Interpretation of various features of the component from the data, newlinegeneration of curves, surfaces and solids represents that these features are the newlinesubsequent steps following the acquisition point cloud data. Various options are newlineavailable in implementing each step of the RE procedure newline |
