dc.description.abstract | Aluminium alloys, have good wear resistance and excellent corrosion resistance properties which make them to be substituted with advanced materials such as aluminium hybrid composites, in various components used in offshore and marine structures. In this research work, two distinct types of aluminium hybrid composites were fabricated and their mechanical properties and microstructure are characterized. Tungsten carbide (WC) and graphite particulates were reinforced with aluminium alloy (AA 5052) for the fabrication of the first type of hybrid composites and silicon carbide (SiC) and graphite particulates were reinforced with AA 5052 for the fabrication of the second type of hybrid composites. Melt-stir casting was used to process the hybrid composite materials and the physical and mechanical properties such as density, microhardness, Charpy impact strength, tensile strength and peak elongation were characterized. newline | |
