Abstract: Stevioside as a food sweetener has led to a decrease in blood glucose newlinevalues and reduction of body weight in obese people. Consuming stevioside newline250 mg/kg of body weight three times a day for a one year period significantly newlinereduced blood pressure in hypertensive volunteers (Chan et al, 2000). It has newlineantioxidant and antihyperlipidemic properties with relatively non-toxic nature newlineand no side effects even at high dosages. Studies have shown that stevioside newlineadministration attenuated the insulin resistance and effectively reduced the newlinehyperinsulinemia and blood glucose level in in vitro and in vivo models. newlineHowever, the molecular mechanism behind the antidiabetic activity of newlinestevioside has not been investigated so far. Therefore, the present study was newlinedesigned to assess the effect of stevioside on insulin signal transduction, newlineglucose uptake and oxidation in the gastrocnemius muscle of high fat and newlinesucrose-induced type-2 diabetic adult male ra newline
