dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to explore a vast hazy area of modern histoy of Orissa, which newlinewas once in the center stage of its politics. When Orissa, being a backward region of colonial newlineIndia, was trying to re-establish its separate identity Madhu Sudan Das emerged as its newlineguardian in this effort and then Gopabandhu Das carried it forward and finally, with the newlinesupport of Mahatma Gandhi, Utkal Pradeshika Congress Committee was formed, which newlineindirectly recognized its cause. Thereafter, alongwith freedom struggle, a movement was newlinecarried on for separate Orissa province. Then, independence came through sacrifice of a lot of newlineblood and stain. Students were vaneguard in the freedom struggle in Orissa. After newlineindependence, the student leaders of freedom struggle became the builders of modern Orissa. newlineBut the dream during the colonial time, for a new atmosphere and complete freedom for newlinestudents, could not be fulfilled. Therefore, students continued their agitations for better newlinecampus, more faculty and other concessions and facilities and launced strike, again and again newlineafter the independence and the same demands are still there, not fulfilled after seventy year of newlineindependence.
