Abstract: | In addition to new technical and scientific advancement in several newlineapplications, non-linear optics (NLO) has allowed the development of many newlineexcellent crystals with the enriched figure of merit to meet the ever growing newlineapplications in lasers, optical communication and data storage technology in newlinedevices i.e. from laboratory to the real-time applications. In general, a newlineparticular laser can emit only certain wavelength which can in turn be newlineconverted to another wavelength by using non-linear optical (NLO) crystals. newlineThis non-linear effect differs from the linear optical effects as this is related to newlinethe laser intensity. Crystals that exhibit the non-linear optical effects are in newlinegeneral termed as NLO crystals. The development of laser and non-linear newlineoptical techniques motivates the study of the effects of simultaneous lasing. newlineSome common approaches for expanding the available laser wavelengths in newlinethe visible and mid-infrared spectral ranges are by the utilization of secondorder newlinenon-linear optical processes, including second-harmonic generation newline(SHG), sum-frequency generation (SFG), difference frequency Generation newline(DFG), optical parametric oscillation (OPO) and optical parametric newlineamplification (OPA). newlineOrganic non-linear optical crystals are gaining importance since they newlineare considered as being structurally more diverse and have proven to be newlinepromising NLO candidates due to their delocalized and#960;-electrons and molecular newlinehyperpolarizability, for a number of applications: optical switching, frequency newlinemixing, electro-optic modulation, optical parametric oscillation, optical newlinebistability etc., In the case of organic crystals; delocalized and#960;-electrons induce newlinethe molecular charge transfer between electron donor and electron acceptor newlinegroups. newline |
