Abstract: Nowadays a good percentage of the electricity is being used for lighting purpose, with the maximum of residential lighting, by using the incandescent and the fluorescent lamps. These light sources have some disadvantages such as, more energy consumption, and certain environmental issues via, mercury contamination. In recent times, we use a new lighting technology, solid state lighting (SSL) technology, which has some advantages viz., longer lifetime, and lower energy consumption. This new technology uses light emitting diodes (LEDs), and this has become a very important technology in the lighting industry. In the SSL technology, semiconductor based LEDs, organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) or polymer light-emitting diodes (PLED) are used as sources of illumination of white light rather than tungsten filaments, plasma or gas. The white LEDs (WLEDs) have some important advantages like energy efficiency, longer lifetime, and environmental friendliness. From these results/characteristic features of different light sources, the WLEDs have gained more attention with respect to their application as common illumination light sources. In the production of the phosphor converted WLEDs, phosphor is playing a very powerful role. Currently, the metal ions, and the rare earth ions doped, and co-doped in the silicate-based host materials are focused much for the fabrication of the WLEDs. This is because these silicate hosts have structural stability, high luminescence, high thermal and chemical stability and mechanical stability. The current work was done with the silicate based Ba2CaZn2Si6O17 phosphors newline
