dc.description.abstractinterconnected to each other. These interconnected power system must maintain newlinegenerator-load balance in equilibrium for stable operation. Whenever there is newlinean increase in load, both frequency and tie-line real power will deviate from its newlinenominal value. This deviation causes severe damages to the machines and newlineequipment connected with the grid. Thus, the regulation of frequency within its newlinelimits is necessary for safe and stable operation of power system. newlineLoad frequency control (LFC) is a control technique for maintaining newlinefrequency, real power output of the generator and net interchange power within newlineits preset values. Load frequency control operates with two control loops: newlineprimary control loop and secondary control loop. The secondary control loop newlinesenses the deviations in both frequency and tie-line exchange power using an newlineerror signal known as Area Control Error (ACE) . By reducing ACE, the newlinesecondary control loop adjusts the generated output power and restores the newlinefrequency to its nominal value by a feedback controller. Thus each control area newlinecan take care of its frequency stability on its own. newlineThe main objective of this thesis work is to propose an optimal feedback newlinecontroller for LFC in a multi area power system. In this thesis, the proposed newlinefeedback controllers are based on classical control, modern control and adaptive newlinecontrol approach. Major focus in this research work is about proposing a state newlinespace based modern controller with approximation technique for LFC. newline
