Abstract: Biomaterials have benefited millions of people enhance their newlinequality of life in essentially every part of the world Biomaterials are defined as a non drug substance having a combination of natural or synthetic origin that can be in contact with living body tissue and body fluid without causing any adverse effect They play a significant role in restoring function and aiding healing in individuals who have suffered as a result of infection or newlinedamage Biomaterials were employed by Egyptian and Mayan civilizations for a multitude of ancient reasons Nowadays metallic implants are used as a biomaterial for orthopaedic applications due to the chemical, physical and biological properties that restore bone function In general metallic materials are typically used for load bearing applications and should have fatigue newlinestrength to resist the challenges of the day to day The metallic material with good biocompatibility and mechanical properties are cobalt chromium alloys 316 L Stainless steel and Titanium and its alloy employed for healing the bone related injuries or defects for long-term and short-term application for practical uses These metallic implants are not biodegradable and it requires newlinerevision surgery to remove the implant in our body and also mismatching the mechanical properties of the natural bone Hence employing them for short term implant application damages the healing bone Based to the literature report, Mg is biodegradable implant material and fulfils the mechanical requirements with closer density 1 74gcm2 and similar Young s modulus 35 40 GPa to that of the natural bone It is the fourth most essential element present in our body newline newline
