Abstract: | According to several water experts, water harvesting entails collecting, transporting, and storing rainwater for future use. It is the purest form of waterand can be used directly for various domestic needs without any further treatment. newlineThe regions with tropical climatic conditions along the belt of the equator receive precipitation in the form of rain. Rainfall is the primary water source on the earth s surface. The water on the surface of the earth is stored in several places, like lakes and ponds, in reservoirs with dams, so it is known as surface water. newlineAs per the literature, rainwater harvesting is happening in various places across the globe for various purposes. Rainwater harvesting is a sustainable practise that addresses the United Nations sustainable development goals for 2018. The practise of rainwater harvesting has existed for such a long period that the harvested water has been used for domestic as well as irrigation purposes. Rainwater potential is high in the regions where it receives the highest rainfall; it meets the domestic requirements of the people in their daily lives. It has been noticed that the government of India has taken the necessary legislation to conserve rainwater through direct recharge methods but has taken no such action through direct rainwater harvesting.
