Abstract: | Chronic diseases are serious life-threatening conditions remains for long life and responsible for cause of impair everyday activities, mortality and disability and need persisting medical attention. The most common chronic diseases are ischemic heart disease, diabetes, stroke, chronic kidney disease, lung cancer, and age-related hearing loss are among the top contributors to increasing health loss worldwide over the past 30 years. Diabetes is metabolic diseases cause due to high blood sugar levels and one of the leading disease causes of death worldwide. The conventional options for type II diabetes mellitus includes biguanides, sulfonylureas, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, meglitinides, thiazolidinedione, DPP-4 inhibitors, and SGLT-2 inhibitors causes life-threatening adverse event like lactic acidosis. The increase in the prevalence of anti-diabetic medications highlights the need for the importance of herbal drugs because of the low level of side effects attributed to these. The polyherbal formulation in this study is developed based on total antioxidant capacity, percentage inhibition of scavenging activities against DPPH, hypoglycemic effect in normal rats, melatonin content, and reported activities of individual herbals, all of which are based on the Ayurvedic concept. Hydroalcoholic extracts of Allium Sativum (bulb), Punica Granatum (fruit), Zingiber Officinale (Shunt), and Syzygium Cumini (Shunt) were blended in a specified ratio to develop polyherbal formulation PHF1 (1:1:1:1), PHF2 (1.5:0.5:0.5:1.5), and PHF3 (1:1:0.5:1.5) polyherbal compositions. In the present study the antioxidant property of polyherbal formulation is evaluated on phosphomolybdate, DPPH scavenging activity and FRAP reduced power and hypoglycemic effect of polyherbal formulation is studied on oral glucose tolerance test. |
