Abstract: A woman attains at the state of motherhood by giving birth to her newlineown offspring. By this physiological as well as natural occurrence of newlinemotherhood becomes a social institution in human society which fulfils newlinethe basic need of society i.e., perpetuation of human race as well as newlinehuman society. But human society is not totally nature oriented. newlineMotherhood is restricted by different institutions like marriage, family, newlinelaw etc. In traditional Indian society, girls are socialized to become good newlinewives and good mothers. In course of time human societies have newlineexperienced a number of changes. Industrial revolution and French newlinerevolution have brought a new era in socio-economic world of western newlinesocieties. Women are also the subjects of those changes. With the advent newlineof British rule, India has also got modern ideas and education. newlineGovernment and social reformers have taken initiatives for changing the newlinelives of Indian women. Education for women has got priority for social newlineupgradation of women. After independence, the government of India has newlineput priority in women s education for the national development. Various newlinemeasures are taken to reduce the gender gaps. As a result, the pattern of newlinewomen s lives have begun to change. Educated women have the newlineopportunity to exhibit their individuality. They involve themselves in newlinepublic activities and many women prefer service before marriage. Parents newlineof these girls also wait for appropriate time to arrange their marriages. newlineFurther, parents of qualified women often fail to secure equally matching newlinegrooms. All these factors lead to increase of normal marriageable age of newlinewomen which in turn bring forth medical complications of consequent newlinelate marriage i.e., for childbearing.
