Abstract: The present world is in search of an alternative sustainable energy newlineresource due to the faster depletion of the existing fossil fuels. Fuel cells are newlineconsidered to be a promising electrochemical device for generating power in the newlinecurrent scenario. There are various types of fuel cells based on the type of newlineelectrolyte used, catalyst, and the process parameters. Among them microbial newlinefuel cell (MFC) is one type of electrochemical system wherein microbes act as a newlinecatalyst and organic or inorganic chemical compounds are used as a substrate for newlinethe system. Also, the reaction is taking place at ambient temperature compared newlineto elevated thermal conditions in hydrogen fuel cells. Apart from generating newlinepower, microbial fuel cells proved to have the potential to treat the wastewater newlinesimultaneously by utilizing the chemical energy present in them. Thus microbial newlinefuel cells perform two activities (power generation and wastewater treatment) at newlineinstance which are most demanded in the current environmental situation. newlineThus the current research work is focused on the development of newlinecomposite membrane materials for the MFC system with sulfonated poly ether
