dc.description.abstract | To build Three Dimensional (3D) physical components directly from newline3D CAD model leading manufacturing technique such as Additive newlineManufacturing (AM) is employed in various manufacturing industries. Using newlineFused Deposition Modelling (FDM), nowadays it is easy to manufacture a newlineprototype with a complex profile, in some applications FDM components are newlinealso been used as functional components as well as products. To manufacture newlinehighly complex shape components with lightweight, industries like newlineAerospace, defence, medical and Automobile are showing more interest in the newlineadvancement of AM techniques. Even though FDM was adapted in most of newlinethe manufacturing industry due to the limitation of materials and poor newlineproperties, most of the FDM components are used as a prototype. Generally, newlinethermoplastic materials such as PLA, ABS, PETG, and Nylon were used as newlinefeedstock for FDM which shows weak stress characteristics when compared newlinewith metals. newlineBased on the geometry of components the stress concentration area newlinemay differ from one place to another, in order to overcome the stress newlineconcentration in FDM components the components are to be designed with newlineminimum stress concentration. newlineAnother method to overcome the stress concentration is by enhancing newlinethe strength of the areas where the stress concentration is high. The newlinemanufacturing industries are now mainly focused on materials design, newlineoptimizing the process parameters and also develop new materials that can newlineprovide well defined mechanical properties for FDM components. newlineThere are various methods are there to enhance the mechanical newlineproperties of 3D printed components, one of the most common method is newlineimplementing composite materials.
