Abstract: In an Active Suspension System (ASS), vibration suppression is a challenging task to enhance the ride comfort of the passenger. The ride comfort of the passenger is associated with Body Acceleration (BA) and Seat Acceleration (SA). The main reason for vibration induced in the vehicle is irregular road profiles. Therefore, ride comfort is achieved by controlling the vibration of the vehicle. The design of controllers plays an important role to suppress the vibration which in turn reduces the BA and SA of the passenger. newlineThe vibration generated in the vertical direction is directly associated with ride comfort. Initially, many researchers have considered quarter car model with low mass for vibration control. This concept is motivated to deal with Heavy Duty Vehicle (HDV) with large mass. Further, the complete dynamics of the vehicle is analysed with Full Car Model (FCM) and Full Car with Driver (FCD) model. To investigate the ride comfort of an ASS, vibration should be measured in the vertical (heave) and horizontal (pitch and roll) directions. newline newlineInitially, most of the studies have designed the conventional Proportional Integral and Derivative (PID) controller to control the vibration of the vehicle. Hence, the literature influences to optimize the parameters of the PID controller by using Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) and Bat optimization techniques. These optimization techniques have been used to suppress the vibration of the HDV for Bump Input (BI), Random Input (RI) and Sinusoidal Input (SI) road profiles. newline
