Abstract: Higher education as the knowledge hub of the society seeks quality initiatives in the era of newlinemodern India. More or less Autonomy of institutions improves the quality of education and newlineperformance of the organization. In the contrary it is also observed that autonomy of newlineinstitutes misguide the organization and the college authority might works against the welfare newlineof the stake holders. In this context a number of studies confirmed the positive effects of newlineautonomy in higher education and a few against the system. In the state of Orissa autonomy newlinepower is provided to both government and non-government institutions, irrespective of their newlinedifferences in type and category. In this regard the present study was intended to see the newlinedifference between the Government and Non-Government colleges of Orissa in terms of newlineeffectiveness of autonomy in the three domains such as Academic autonomy, financial newlineautonomy and Administrative autonomy. newline
