Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlinePreventing AIDS infection among youth would help to reduce the mounting cost of treatment, providing resources that could help meet other needs of young people. Early action against AIDS is far more effective than delayed action. In particular, addressing AIDS among youth earlier than later could do much to stem the spread of the epidemic. newline Research design for the study is Pre-test post-test control group design. The study setting were four Government Higher secondary schools at Arakonam. Among them 4 Higher secondary schools are chosen by simple random sampling. The schools are homogenous in nature with a distance of 6to 10 km each. In each school , 80-100 students were selected who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Structured questionnaire format having three sections, such as Section I - Demographic variables. Section II- Knowledge assessment tool. Section III-Attitude assessment tool were used to collect the data from the study participants by the investigator. The post test was conducted after 7 days interval and reassessed the knowledge and attitude level of the same group. newlineThe result shows that overall level of knowledge in pre-test and post-test, In pre-test shows 73.33% having inadequate knowledge score and in post-test, 5.71% having inadequate knowledge score. It was calculated using Extended McNemar s test.In experiment group, in post-test aftermultidimensional approach, studentsare gained 25.37% more attitude score than pre-test score. In experiment group, in post-test after multidimensional approach, studentsare gained 28.10% more knowledge score than pre-test score. In control group, in post-test, studentsare gained 1.37% more knowledge score than pre-test score.Effectiveness of the study was given in mean with 95% confidence interval and percentage with 95% confidence interval. newlineEducation is the only tool to prevent and hamper the spread of HIV/AIDS infection among adolescents . This will pave the way for aids free India . newline |
