Abstract: | Frequency Selective Surface FSS is a two-dimensional repetitive array of elements arranged identically on a dielectric substrate The nature of the array elements decides whether the incident plane wave is transmitted passband or reflected stopband either partially or completely due to the synchronization of the operating frequency with the frequency of an incoming electromagnetic EM wave FSS behaves as an electromagnetic EM filter for blocking or passing electromagnetic waves of a certain frequency spectrum in free space FSS is prominently used in the design and implementation of numerous applications at a variable frequency range from optical to microwave The first part of this thesis discusses the novel miniaturized FSS with a band stop response at 16 GHz is presented The designed FSS comprises convoluted elements connected via plated-through holes PTH which increases the overall electrical length The proposed FSS unit cell provides the miniaturization of 0034 and#955;0 × 0034 and#955;0 where and#955;0 is the free-space wavelength corresponding to the resonant frequency The drafted FSS is polarization-independent and angularly stable for both Transverse Electric TE and Transverse Magnetic TM polarizations A prototype of the FSS is fabricated and its simulated results are validated with measurements The proposed single-band FSS is used in L-band applications newline |
