Abstract: | The main aim of the present study is to develop an industrially valuable and most important diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) epoxy resin by toughening it with cyanate ester (CE) and BZ. 3-(glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxy silane (GPTMS) functionalized Al-MCM-41, cock feather and natural fiber were used as reinforcements to fabricate epoxy-CE nano-composites suitable for high- performance applications. Organic intermediates such as CE and BZ (BZ) were synthesized using appropriate chemicals with suitable reaction conditions and their structures were ascertained by FT-IR, and NMR. newlineData obtained from different studies such as cure behaviour, thermal, dielectric, and morphological properties indicate that the F-AL-MCM-41/CE/DGEBA epoxy nano-composites imparted better set of properties than those of neat CE/DGEBA due to the inherent nature of filler. An incorporation of CE to epoxy resin increases the thermal stability and storage modulus due to the reinforcing effect offered by F-Al-MCM-41 present in the composites. The values of dielectric constant increases with increasing the varying weight percentages of F-Al-MCM-41 due to the presence of aluminum ions in the F-Al-MCM-41, which facilitates the formation of clusters of metal particles and in turn contributes to enhanced polarization. DOPO based BZ matrix was synthesized from appropriate chemical reactants. The varying weight percentages of GPTMS functionalized Al-MCM-41 were incorporated into the DOPO-BZ matrix to prepare PBZ nano-composites. The BZ exhibits good compatibility with F-Al-MCM-41 filler and makes it possible to form cross-linking network of the cured products. newline |
