Impact of occupation on Rural Built Form A case of Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

Traditionally architectural theory and research revolved around the study of monuments and there is gap in exploring the basic needs of the masses. The research aims to envisage the provision of occupationally driven housing for better living and working for rural households in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India through selected occupations viz., agriculture, weaving and toy making from nine villages. As per the literature review, it was observed that the studies on vernacular and rural built form was neglected. Further reviews have resulted that more studies were focused on culture at a larger purview and there was no literature and studies on occupational influences on built form. It was also observed that the beneficiaries from Government rural housing schemes were not satisfied with the housing designs.
