Abstract: | Land-use/land-cover change is the most vulnerable factor in any newlinedeveloping urban environment. The pattern of land-use in a particular area or a newlineregion keeps on changing continuously because of its interconnection with newlinenumerous components, for example, natural and human processes. newlineLand-use/land-cover change may affect the environment and also influence newlinefuture land-use. Increased infrastructure and population density tend to alter the newlineland features, which will have an impact on the thermal environment and newlineincrease the impervious layer. Communities encountering rapid urbanization newlinehave significantly impacted on the regional climate and environment due to newlineurban heat islands. Economic expansion has fostered urbanization in a newlinedeveloping country like India, especially in Tamil Nadu, where the number of newlineurban towns has significantly increased. newlineA study of trends in land-use/land-cover change is required for newlineanalyzing the possible ways of managing the natural system. The fundamental newlineproblem of the urban planners is that the trends represent the only past and newlineexisting situations. The planning decisions made based on them without newlineconsidering future maps cannot be appropriate if the planners do not consider newlinethe prediction of future maps. newline |
