Abstract: | Medical imaging plays an important role in applications that include the clinical track of events in diagnosis areas of planning and carrying out surgical and radiotherapy treatment Structural imaging like CT or MRI is not well suited for pathology detection since cellular activity is more significant The PET imaging that provides the molecular activity of diseases is combined with high resolution CT It utilizes both functional and structural activity and provides the higher sensitivity and specificity than is achievable using single modality FDG is the radiotracer used as the marker for the glucose uptake in areas of tissue metabolism This glycolytic radioactivity substance gets accumulated on metabolically active regions like inflammation or infection repair tissue sites cancerous cells and hyperactive sites The concentration of FDG in the tissues can be due to pathologic condition or due to normal physiologic uptake since it is not cancer specific newlineDue to this complexity the preoperative planning of exact medication and treatment method remains a challenging task for the physicians even after the advancement of fused PET/CT imaging technology In certain cases the patient has experienced the trial and error medical treatment if pre-planning fails Also the proper delineation of infected areas decide the dosage level to the infected regions without affecting the normal tissues Clinically experienced and proper planning only can assure the resection of abnormal areas completely Medical Image Processing acquires the valuable knowledge and modes which can be used for discovering abnormal situations not consistent with manual examination newline newline |
