CFD Analysis of Fluid Flow Through Different Types of Pipe and Piping Components

Abstract

The single phase Newtonian and non-Newtonian pseudo plastic liquid flow through different types of smooth and rough U-bends have broadly used in few decades because of their widespread application in industry. This is mainly observed in boiler tubes, heat exchanger, distillation columns, oil and gas wells, transportation system of crudes and refined products, all key pieces of equipment in refineries, petrochemical industries, polymer processing, nuclear engineering and large number of chemical reactor newlineapplications. Most of the liquid is handled to develop the rubber, plastic and polymer processing, food processing, bio-chemical and bio-medical engineering, catalyzed-liquid conversion, recovery of mineral, hydraulic control and transportation are non-Newtonian in nature. Therefore, we should need an extensive studies to know the rheological behavior of non-Newtonian fluids inside the different types of bends. The optimization of frictional pressure loss, friction factor, major and minor loss of fluid flow through bend pipes is necessary to minimize the pumping and transportation cost.
