Abstract: | The development and advancement of societies intimately depend on the ability to produce the new materials. It depends on the design flexibility which obtains from tailoring different properties of materials, according to particular requirement. It is merely impossible for any monolithic material to meet all the desired properties. The advancement of composite materials and their related design and manufacturing technologies are some of the most significant aspects in the direction of material evolution. Composite materials offer numerous engineering applications in the field of aerospace, automotive and structural industry. Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are most widely used composite materials in the industrial scale that provides significant enhanced properties over conventional monolithic materials, such as higher strength, stiffness and high strength to weight ratio. The newlineincorporation of hard ceramic phase mixing with relatively soft matrix alloy like Aluminium, improves the weight ratio, strength, isotropic properties, hardness, high thermal and electrical conductivity, good damping capacity, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Moreover, the alloys exhibit light weight that makes these materials potential candidate for many applications such as automotive and space applications. Heat treatment is a primary strengthening process for aluminum alloy, through which the mechanical property is changed for metal matrix composite. |
