Case of sacred groves in Kerala India

Abstract

Communication shapes how we see and value the world. Timely, well-articulated and engaging forms of environmental communication lies at the crux of changing the societal attitude towards natural resources like Sacred Groves. This requires a paradigm shift in understanding environmental communication as not just of disseminating information but leading to multi-level interaction resulting in debates and discussions which further evolve into decision making by the governing bodies leading to a more sustainable engagement with the said natural resource, i.e. sacred groves. In this thesis titled Transformations in Environmental Communication - case of sacred groves in Kerala, India, the researcher uses the ethnographic methods to analyze the potential role of transformation in environmental communication leading to better resource management of sacred groves, to study how better environmental communication can aid the natural resource management of sacred groves.
