Lightweight alloys and metals continue to gain huge significance in multiple domains such as automobile, aerospace, and agriculture sectors. Light metal alloys include aluminium, magnesium, titanium, and beryllium which have high strength to weight ratio with low density. Nowadays, aluminium based alloys are preferred in several applications due to their better serviceability. Aluminium alloys are having remarkable characteristics like ductility, lightweight, strength, castability and machinability. To improve the mechanical properties of ferrous metal and titanium alloys, aluminium alloys were used as alloying elements. Aluminium alloys are non-ferrous metals, relatively simple to fabricate by casting and machining. They possess remarkable characteristics like ductility, lightweight, strength, castability and machinability. To improve the mechanical properties of ferrous metal and titanium alloys, aluminium alloys were used as alloying elements. Aluminium alloys are fabricated through different casting techniques, such as gravity die casting, pressure die-casting and vacuum casting process. Gravity Die Casting (GDC) also called as Permanent mould casting is a conventional casting technique to cast large size intricate components. However, the castings produced in this method are interrupted with quality and dimensional defects. Casting defects such as pinholes, shrinkage, hot tear, and scab result in poor performance in terms of mechanical characteristics of aluminium alloy castings. Al-Si-Cu aluminium alloy oil pump casing, rotor and stator produced with gravity die casting do not attain the required level of mechanical properties and quality scales. newline newline newline
