Abstract: | Many of the Federal capitals of the world have a history of being chosen for their newlineunique geographical locations, which have some landmarks in history, culture, newlinedemography and political development also. Federal capitals embrace linguistic and newlinecultural diversity equally in their ethos. The need for the authority of the Federal newlinegovernment in the diplomatic and security issues of the Federal capital can not be newlineundermined. On the other hand the residents of the national federal capital region can newlinenot be prevented from electing their own government as in other states. Therefore, newlineseveral Federal countries typically created a small separate entity as the National newlineCapital Region e.g The District of Columbia (USA), Canberra (Australia) and Ottawa newline(Canada). newlineThe parliament of India granted a special constitutional status to Delhi, being the newlinenational capital, by inserting Article 239AA in the constitution of India. A special status newlinehas been given to the Union Territory of Delhi which is called National Capital newlineTerritory of Delhi having Legislative assembly . In the Legislative assembly, the newlineelectoral seats are filled by the elected members through direct election from newlineconstituencies territory wise in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Government of newlineNCT of Delhi has a Chief Minister with a Council of Ministers to aid and advise the newlineLieutenant Governor. newlineThe NCT of Delhi is controlled and governed by multiple governments viz. Central newlineGovernment, Government of NCT of Delhi, Local Governments e.g, New Delhi newlineMunicipal Council and other Municipal Corporations. Therefore, Delhiand#8223;s governance is newlinedistinguished by overlapping jurisdictions as well as legal and structural irregularities. newlineIn this context, the administrative structure and governance of select federal capitals of newlinethe world have been studied in details to draw competitive relevance in contemporary newlinesituation and to examine the present Government in Delhi and its efficacy to deal with newlinethe varying problems like overlapping jurisdiction, Law and Order |
