Abstract: Education is a process and acts as an instrument to bring out the innate behaviour of the individual. There is need to identify the determinants of educational growth from various aspects of life, like academic confidence, self-esteem and emotional competence, which seem to guide an individual s performance in school. So, the present study has high need and importance. The main objective of the present investigation is to study the level of mental health problem, academic confidence, self-esteem and emotional competence of the women students. Normative survey method has been used in the present study. A sample of 800 higher secondary students in the state of Tamil Nand#257;du has been selected. The following tools were used for the present investigation, viz., (i) Mental Health Problems Scale (MHPS) constructed and validated by the investigator, (ii) Academic Confidence Scale (ACS) constructed and validated by Sander, P., and Sanders, L., (2004), (iii) Self-Esteem Scale (SES) constructed and validated by Santosh Dhar and Upinder Dhar (2015) and (iv) Emotional Competence Scale (ECS) constructed and validated by Harish Sharma and Rajeev Lochan Bharadwaj (2016). The following statistical techniques have been used viz., (i) Descriptive Analysis, (ii) Differential Analysis, (iii) Correlation Analysis and (iv) Regression Analysis. The present investigation has been found to have the majority of the women students showing a average level of mental health problem, average level of academic confidence, high level of self esteem and average level of emotional competence and this trend is seen in respect of the sub-samples, too. newline
