The present investigation entitled Genetic analysis for qualitative and quantitative traits of different genotypes of pea (Pisum sativum L.) under Prayagraj agro-climatic condition was undertaken in the experimental field of Department of Horticulture, SHIATS, Allahabad during the Rabi seasons of 2014-15 and 2015-16 with the objectives to evaluate the performance of garden pea genotypes in Allahabad agro-climatic conditions. Finally it may be concluded that KS-156 produced significantly higher pod yield, higher protein content, gross return, net return and cost benefit ratio during both the years. The wide range of genetic variation was observed for all the characters among the genotypes. The characters like pod yield per plant, height of plants, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, protein and ash content are governed by additive gene action and phenotypic selection would be effective for the improvement of characters. On the basis of correlation studies, it can be concluded that height of plant, number of branches per plant, moisture per cent, number of nodes per plant and number of pods per plant exhibited significant correlation for pod yield in pea and these can be considered for identification of high yielding genotypes. The path analysis revealed that focusing on height of plant and number of branches per plant could improve breeding efficiency of pea. The higher inter-cluster distance indicated greater genetic divergence between the genotypes of those clusters while, lower inter-cluster values between the clusters suggested that genotypes of the clusters were not much genetically diverse from each other. The cluster means for different traits indicated considerable differences between the clusters. Further the crossing between lines of distant clusters may give rise desirable segregates. newlineKey words: Genetic analysis, GCV, PCV, correlation, genetic divergence . newline
