Abstract: | Present research work throws light on the film adaptation theory with reference to Chetan Bhagat s four novels and their four film adaptations respectively. For this experiment, descriptive, conceptual as well as analytical research methodologies were adapted. The relevant information on the present topic, has been gathered from the four novels by Chetan Bhagat and four films adapted from those novels, reference books, websites, Ph. First chapter serves as an introduction to the upcoming chapters giving outline of Film Adaptation Theory and its types, adapted films in Bollywood, difference between text of a novel and script of a film, parameters to identify this difference, introduction to the author and his four novels, films adapted from these novels, etc. Next four chapters present a comparative analysis of a novel and its adapted film in the light of selected parameters like theme, story- beginning, middle and end, characterisation, costume, role of sound and music, point of view, flash back, text and script, etc. Through this analysis, the researcher has done a comparison between the four novels of Chetan Bhagat and their film adaptations to understand the difference between the text of a literary work and the script of a film.
