Abstract: newlineEvaluation of Serum HomocysteineVitamin B12 and Folate Levels In Patients of Lung Carcinoma newlineIntroduction Lung carcinoma is the leading cause of death worldwide among cancer related deaths It is mainly found to be caused by smoking as it is the main contributing risk factor for the occurrence of lung carcinoma Studies on Serum Homocysteine vitamin B12 and Folate levels among lung carcinoma patients are few So the study was planned to explore the association of the levels of serum Homocysteine Vitamin B12 and Folate levels in lung carcinoma patients newlineOBJECTIVES The proposed study was planned to fulfil following objectives newlineTo estimate the Hcy levels in patients with Lung Carcinoma newline To evaluate Vitamin B12 level in newly diagnosed patients with Lung Carcinoma newlineTo study Folate level in patients with Lung Carcinoma newlineTo compare levels of Hcy Vitamin b12 and Folate in control group and study group newlineTo evaluate the correlation of Hcy Vitamin b12 and Folate levels in Lung Carcinoma patients newline To compare levels of Hcy Vitamin b12 and Folate in smokers and nonsmokers among Lung Carcinoma patients newline newlineMETHOD 150 Lung carcinoma patients and 150 healthy individuals contributing to control group was enrolled by fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study Student t test One way ANOVA and chi square tests were used for the analysis of results obtained newlineRESULT Mean age of the Lung carcinoma patients and control group was comparable Mean level of serum homocysteine among Lung carcinoma patients was 15 49 8 20 and#956;mol L and among control group was 10 14 1 75 and#956;mol L Mean level of Vitamin B12 among Lung carcinoma patients was 495 69 277 54 pg ml and among control group was 412 89 248 56 pg ml Mean level of Folate among Lung carcinoma patients was 19 69 13 83 pg ml and among control group was 30 30 10 68 pg ml newlineCONCLUSION Raised levels of homocysteine levels slightly raised levels of vitamin B12 and decreased levels of Folate was found among Lung carcinoma patients as compare to the control groups I
