Historically Handloom sector has been the backbone of the Indian industry and the newlineessence of Indian civilization and culture. After the evaluation of industrialization, the newlinehandloom industry is facing stiff competition with power loom which consistently newlineupgrading technology and other industries, Nevertheless, the handloom industry has newlinethe significant contribution in India s national income as its provide the employment newlineto more than 43 lakh people just next to the mainstream agriculture and also in newlineinternational as well as intra-national trade. With the assessments of handloom newlinebackground since ancient to Vedic to Mughal Period and the suppressing British newlineregime and thorough assessments of the development of Handloom in independent newlineIndia, the present studies examine the socioeconomic conditions of handloom weavers newlineof Bargarh District of Odisha in particular and India in general. This study suggests newlinethe government initiatives for the realization of the handloom sector at its optimum newlinelevel and improvement in the life of handloom weavers and overall growth and newlinedevelopment of the handloom sector. newline
