To Assess the Awareness of Home Science among Junior College Students in Marathwada Region

Abstract

The present research work was undertaken to study the awareness of Home Science newlineamong junior college students, the course in Home Science encompasses five areas namely newlineHuman Development, Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing, Home Management and newlineExtension Education. All these domains have their specific content in focus that contributes to newlinethe study of the individual and the family in Indian cultural context. All the domains within the newlineHome Science discipline provide ample scope for professional avenues of higher education newlineand career opportunities. They range from professions catering to various health and services newlineinstitutions/agencies, educational organizations, industry and business houses of textiles, newlinegarments, food industry, teaching learning materials, ergonomically appropriate equipment and newlinework situations. The suggestions of the study demand for awareness of Home Science newlineintervention program to be initiated by government, parents, teachers, academic institutes and newlinesociety. The present study comprised to assess the awareness of Home Science among junior newlinecollege students in Marathwada region. Intervention program for junior college students was newlineimplemented through package of information about Home Science subject. The package of newlineinformation includes knowledge regarding Home Science disciplines such as Human newlinedevelopment, food and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing, Home Management, and Extension newlineEducation. Intervention program of six lectures in a week was scheduled for one month. In newlineeight months eight colleges of Marathwada region were covered. For data collection pre newlineplanned questionnaire was used at beginning of intervention program. Pre-test was carried out newlinewith the help of questionnaire (Appendix - I), which includes general information of newlinerespondents family background, gender, age, class, faculty, ordinal position, family type, newlinefamily size, parents education, parents occupation, parents income, health awareness and newlinehabits, personality traits of junior college students, etc. data was collected from re
