Abstract: Clothing is an integral part of human life. The main role of clothing is to protect the body against unsuitable physical environments. Intensive growth of the world population indicates the need of making clothing fabrics that comply with the requirements of a large number of consumers. It is not enough for clothing fabrics to have only a good appearance and durability. The fabrics should also have good comfort properties. Generally, the apparel fabrics are being produced to the larger extent from either ring or compact spun yarn material. However, ring and compact yarns used for suiting applications are associated with their own merits and demerits. It is essential for the fabrics to exhibit better dimensional, mechanical, handle and thermo-physiological properties for suiting application. In the recent past, the researchers have thoroughly carried out the investigation pertaining to ring and compact yarn properties, yarn doubling, doubling twist and its direction etc., with respect to their influence on double yarn characteristics and subsequently on fabric properties. The studies have also been reported specifically in relation to the comfort properties of suiting fabrics woven from ring, rotor and friction spun yarns and frictional characteristics of suiting fabrics, etc. However, the information on the suitability of hybrid double yarn produced from ring and compact single yarns for suiting fabrics is scanty in literature and hence the thrust of the present investigation is to explore the potential of hybrid double yarn for suiting application. newlineIn order to study the characteristics of suiting fabrics, initially different combinations of 100% cotton ring, compact and hybrid double yarns were produced by varying the yarn type, single yarn twist and doubling ratio by using 33 factorial design of experiment. All these yarns produced were tested for mechanical and surface properties. The test results were analyzed by using ANOVA (General Linear Model). During the data analysis, the double yarn which has shown the
