Abstract: The present research work aims at the study of the nature and functions of a search for identity and self for survival in literature through the novels of Hari Kunzru. A strive is made to examine, scrutinize and analyze the passages crammed with a search for identity and self for survival in his novels. The present thesis examines the concern for people enforced to survive on the margins of society with little or no rightness at all. newlineThis thesis works on several different levels by Kunzru s writing. It raises questions on the issues of race, black or white, Indian or English. It also focuses on an individual s place in society and personal and political consequences for accepting or challenging the existing conditions. newlineIn contemporary literature, identity is formed as a popular theme in strange borders of the postcolonial world. These extensive novels ambitiously attempt to unite satire, farce, and tension with questions of identity class, race, culture and heritage in the symbols of different characters in different places. The magnificent aspect of these novels is that readers slowly know that these are not just another story-driven novels with exotic locations and unusual protagonists facing life-changing decisions, however captivating they may be. newlineThe colonial forces are significant throughout the novels with the themes of mixed identities and racial clashes. From the mid-twentieth century to the present, many historians are focusing on the studies upon issues of race, ethnicity, class and gender. Hari Kunzru tries to show the termination of class ranking based on rich-poor, black, white, superior and inferior. This research work manifests racial discrimination, patriotism and ethnonational dispute still are persuading all over the world. newlineThese novels are truly an example of various exposures to the world and its varied problems. This thesis focuses on the sentimental responses around the world. It focuses on the concept of hybridity among Indians and Europeans. It elaborates the aspirations of common people
