Abstract: | Abstract newlineLuminescence of solids is a frontier field of research with many important newlineapplications. As per our general understanding of the processes that are taking place is newlineat a reasonable level. Nevertheless, many problems are still left without understanding. newlineOne of these are, the way in which luminescence properties depend on crystal structure newlineand composition. In contrast to the properties such as magnetism and electrical newlineconductivity, luminescence is a property related to the energy difference between two newlineelectron states, viz. the emitting state and ground state. newlineIn India more than 2000 tons of phosphor lamps are using and around 300 tons newlineof TV phosphors were consumed by the Industry. However most of the phosphors were newlineimported by the Indian Industry for domestic consumption. At present considerable newlineinterest has been directed towards the synthesis and characterization of economical and newlineefficient lanthanide doped lamp and display phosphor using different hosts. They have newlinebeen developed for various types of lamps and display devices. The red [5D0 and#8594; 7F2] newlineand orange emission [5D0 and#8594; 7F1] of Eu3+ newline, green emission of Tb3+ [ newline5D4 and#8594; 7F5] and blue newlineemission [5d and#8594; 2F5/2,7/2] of Ce3+ phosphors were generally used in these phosphors. newlineThese phosphors find applications in fluorescent lamps, color TV screen, cathode ray newlinetubes (CRT), plasma display panels (PDPs), discharge lamp etc. In the last two decades newlineconsiderable interest has been developed towards the synthesis and characterization of newlineeconomical and efficient lanthanides doped phosphors using different host materials. newlineThe host materials chosen in the present investigation Ba2SiO4, Sr2GeO4 and newlineBa2GeO4 are known for their better performance both in lamp manufacturing process newlineand in lamp operation. In view of this, in the present investigation, synthesis and newlinecharacteristics of Ba2SiO4, phosphor doped with Ce3+, Eu3+ and Tb3+, Sr2GeO4 and newlineBa2GeO4 phosphors doped with Ce3+, Eu3+ were undertaken. |
