dc.description.abstractDiabetes Mellitus (DM) has emerged as a major health concern globally; its prevalence is newlineincreasing at an alarming rate which culminates socio-economic burden to rural and newlineurban population of India. It is evident that several factors including sedentary life-style, newlinedietary habits, stress and environmental factors are major risk factors responsible behind newlineDM progression. Recently, research findings suggested that serum uric acid is one of the newlinepotential risk factor responsible for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) development. newlineCumulative research findings suggested that dietary habits and balanced life style pattern newlinehave long been associated with the management and prevention of various metabolic newlinedisorders including DM. Pertinent to it, the present research work is an effort to newlineinvestigate the relationship between dietary pattern and uric acid in type 2 diabetes newlinemellitus patients visiting OPD of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, Kanpur. The study was newlinedesigned and an interviewer administered questionnaire based case control study was newlineconducted among randomly selected 120 type 2 diabetes mellitus cases and 102 normal newlinesubjects, total sample size was 222 were selected in the present study. newlineThe present research findings carried out on socio demographic characteristics newlinedemonstrated that there is significant association between occupation and diabetic newlinepatients when compared with normal control. The Statistical analysis showed no newlinedifference between the genders with regards to their mean age. The present findings newlinesuggested that subjects with high caloric diet on a daily basis are on high risk of disease newlineprogression because of enhanced HbA1C and blood sugar levels (p and#8804; 0.005). The present newlinefindings validated that diabetic subjects possess significant higher level of blood sugar, newlinelipid profile, systolic blood pressure, SGPT, uric acid, serum creatinine, fundus newlineexamination except HDL level, LDL level and diastolic blood pressure.
